According to the 24th Article of Senate Principles Regarding Postgraduate Education, to be able to take course as a special student, it's required;
- To be an enrolled student in a university other than İTU
- To complete at least one semester in the enrolled universty and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4
- For English courses, to have a valid English proficiency score in a proficiency exam accepted by İTU
Candidates who wants to take course as a special student in 2020-2021 Spring Semester must deliver the following documents to Graduate School between 22 February - 3 March 2021 by e-mail (lee@itu.edu.tr), mail/cargo or in person. Documents delivered after the mentioned dates will not be processed.
- Special Student Application Form (Form must be filled electronically. Signs can be taken electronically from PDF. Forms missing signs will not be processed.)
- Student Certificate (must be prepared in the last two weeks, can be obtained from E-Devlet)
- Transcript of the registered program (must be prepared in the last two weeks)
- Photocopy of identity card
- English proficiency result document (Click here for the proficiency exams accepted by İTU. Students who do not hold these requirements cannot take English courses.)

Important Notes:
- There is no fee for special studentship.
- Courses to be taken as special student must not overlapt. Overlapping courses cannot be registered to the system.
- İTÜ students cannot register as special student.
- Special students can document their course success with transcript at the end of the semester.
- Registered universities have their own procedures of taking courses outside of the university, therefore it's advised to be in touch with the registered university as well and follow their instructions.
- If the registered university approves taking course from İTÜ, it officially conveys this affair to İTÜ. Regarding this, Graduate School conveys the course note to the registered university at the end of the semester.
- Bu statüde ders alan öğrenciler yarıyıl sonunda not dökümü ile ders başarı durumlarını belgelendirebilirler.
- Kayıtlı olunan Üniversitelerin de, Üniversite dışından ders alma hususunda kendi prosedürleri vardır, dolayısıyla bu konuda kayıtlı olunan Üniversite ile irtibatta olunması ve yönlendirmelere göre hareket edilmesi tavsiye olunur.
- Kayıtlı olunan Üniversite İTÜ’ den ders alınmasını onaylıyor ise bu durumu İTÜ’ye resmi olarak bildirir. Bu bildirime istinaden yarıyıl sonunda ders notu kayıtlı olunan Üniversiteye Enstitümüz tarafından bildirilir.
